Chip Barnett
Chip has been an AEG member since 1998, and active within the Washington AEG section since 2002, serving as the section Treasurer and as the section Vice-Chairperson. He received a BA degree in Geology from Humboldt State University and a MS degree in Geology from Portland State University. He has 14 years of experience working for geotechnical consulting firms in the Pacific NW and currently works for GeoEngineers in Redmond, WA. He is a Licensed Geologist and Engineering Geologist in Washington, a Registered Geologist in Oregon, and a Professional Geologist in California.
Vice Chair
Paul Zehfuss
Paul is the current Vice Chair and the previous Secretary. He is currently a geologist at Shannon & Wilson, Inc., in Seattle, Washington, where he has been working for the past six years. His work at Shannon & Wilson is focused primarily on applying geologic interpretation to engineering-related projects. Prior to joining the consulting industry, Paul researched lahars from Mount Rainier and faulting rates in California as part of his graduate work. Paul received a BS degree in geology from the University of Vermont, and MS degree in geology from Humboldt State University, and a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Washington. Paul is a licensed geologist in the State of Washington.
Treasurer
Chad Lukkarila
Chad is a geological engineer with Kleinfelder in Redmond, Washington, where he has been working for the past 11 years. His work at Kleinfelder is focused primarily on rock engineering projects in Washington and around the Country. Chad has been active with the Washington AEG section since moving to Washington in 1999. He received BS and MS degrees in Geological Engineering from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. Chad is a Licensed Geologist, Engineering Geologist, and Professional Engineer in the State of Washington. He is also a Registered Geologist in Utah and a Professional Engineer in Oregon, Idaho, and seven other States.
Secretary
Matthew von der Ahe
Matthew is a geologist at Aspect Consulting, LLC, in Seattle, Washington. Matthew received a MS in Geology in 2008 from the University of Washington, where his Master’s project was concerned with the depositional and deformational processes in Olympic Peninsula Tertiary marine rocks. Matthew’s firm River Rock Environmental, Inc. represented manufacturers of soil and groundwater sampling and analysis equipment from 1990 to 2003. At Aspect since 2009, Matthew has worked on a wide range of engineering and environmental geology projects in Western Washington.

Justin Vetter
Justin has been an AEG member and active within the Washington section since 2009. He recieved a BA in Geology from Western Michigan University and a MS degree in Geology from the Univerity of Idaho, and is a GIT in Washington. He is the current Technology & Communications committee chair, has acted in numerous AEG committees at the state and national level, and is the current webmaster.
